Same ol' role, but different. That's the great thing about the job, as the products and the industry (and the world) evolves, the job changes to meet the new challenges. And you get to bring some extra skills back into the role. Tim, as a hugely experienced and respected technical ambassador of the Lotus brand this is great news for everyone (except our competitors).

Well done Tim. Best of luck with the new job and no doubt our paths will cross. From the UK/Ireland perspective (and Europe IMO) you are one of the strongest assets Lotus has.

Also, I would recommend venting your spleen on facebook and/ or twitter. Large companies like BMW monitor such sites in order to preserve their own reputation. From those I have spoken to about this, the phrase 'every time a coconut' springs to mind.

That's often how customer service appears over here in the UK, which is a shame. I work with an American and in between all the incorrect spelling, she often says how appalled she is at the Brit approach to Customer Service - in that it barely exists. The Brit view seems to see customers as a 'walking wallet' whereas the Americans want your money but they want you to come back and spend more another day.

Interestingly, I was listening to the Services Complaints Commissioner the other day and she said that how a company or organisation deals with complaints defines the company as a whole. She used a cracking example:

A high flying executive arrives in London for a meeting, checks into his hotel to find that he forgot to bring a suitable shirt. So he goes to a nearby shop and buys one. Come the following morning, he gets the shirt out to find that it's damaged and unwearable. He loses the plot and phones the company. Listening to his concerns, they had a replacement shirt couriered to him and arranged to have it pressed for him in time for the big meeting he had flown in for. He now buys all his shirts from this company: they had turned a 'never-want-to-shop-here-again' customer to one of the most loyal they have.

That's customer service.

I believe that if we vote with our feet and wallet, commerce will have to get the hint and act.

It is worth noting that if you need to check for both the submitted value and the "normal" value if the onchange event has not yet been fired - for example if you open an existing document or if the "correct" value has already defaulted in to the first box.

see the redbook example here
http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/ddwiki.nsf/dx/Form_Design#Combining%20getValue%20and%20getSubmittedValue

and my post here

Thanks, Tim...and thanks for making this application available. I'm a senior Notes developer (since R2.x), but have been out of the loop for the last year or so. This "tutorial" has been very helpful in getting me up to speed on XPages technology.

Hi Dave,
Sorry about that, it should be in the presentation at about page 192.
When you click on a tab the onClick event sets the sessionScope.TabID to be which ever tab you have clicked on, based on the programmatic name of the tab. When the tabbed panel is used on the cc_home custom setting it to look for the sessionScope.TabID tells it to take the last one you clicked on.
Not sure why you didn't get an error in IE8.
There are numerous posts in the Domino Designer Wiki about scoped variables and I've not seen anything comprehensive yet about all the properties available. To be fair there are hundreds of them so I don't think we are ever going to get all of them documented.
